Education & Training

Education and training at The Food Hub is built around one clear idea: people learn best when they are close to the sector they are preparing for.

The Food Hub gives learners, trainers and education partners access to a food and drink environment shaped by production, hospitality, product development, food science, visitor experience and enterprise. Skills are developed beside businesses that are producing, employing, selling, serving and growing from Drumshanbo.

The Hub has long acted as a culinary and food product training and development centre for the North West and border region. It has hosted third-level ATU student work placements in food science, and its wider enterprise activity has shown strong demand from food businesses for skills in product development, quality control and production.

MSLETB is an anchor education partner at The Food Hub, and together with Leitrim Partnership, established a culinary training centre for hospitality and culinary skills. The Hospitality Operations QQI Level 5 programme has created a pathway to employment for over 600 people since launch.

This makes education at The Food Hub practical, connected and purposeful. Learners are gaining skills in a place where food and drink enterprise is already happening around them.

What makes education at The Food Hub special

Learning beside real enterprise

Training takes place in a food and drink setting shaped by tenant businesses, café hospitality, premium drinks, food production and regional networks.

A skills base for the county

The Food Hub helps build the people pipeline needed by food, hospitality and related businesses in Leitrim and the wider North West.

Culinary and hospitality pathways

MSLETB’s culinary training activity supports learners to build practical skills and progress towards employment, further training or enterprise.

Food science and technical skills

The Hub has hosted ATU food science placements and is linked to skills needs in product development, quality control, production and future food innovation.

Future-focused training

The next phase of Drumshanbo’s food infrastructure places stronger emphasis on knowledge and talent, including food science and innovation training, R&D space, food testing, food tech units and direct training for 300 learners.

At The Food Hub, education is connected to the place where food and drink enterprise happens: production, hospitality, food science, skills, employment and innovation in one Drumshanbo setting.
